Summer Reading Challenge - Space Hop Cermony
The Summer Reading Challenge 2010 - 'Space Hop' this year - has been as popular as ever - hundreds of young readers signed up to read six Library books over the summer and collect stickers and free gifts each week. Bookbug
Bookbug has replaced Bookstart as the gifting programme for the under fours. Shetland Library, in partnership with NHS Shetland, provides three stages of packs to encourage a love of books and reading. Packs 1 and 2 can be collected from your Health Visitor at 7 week and 18 month checks, or from the Library. Pack 3 is available from the Library for every 3 year old. |

Young Shetland Writer competition 2010

This year's competition has now closed, and the winners will be presented with their prizes at Wordplay in September. This annual competition is open to all young writers between the ages of 7 and 17. Previous years' winning entries are available on our Young Shetland Writer page. |
Remember your library card!
Use your Library card to borrow books, CDs, DVDs etc as well as to use the online catalogue to check what you have on loan, renew and reserve items. To do this, you will need your borrower number and you will also need your PIN number, which you can get from Library staff, or by completing the PIN request form online. Your borrower number can also be used to get access to a range of online books and multimedia, which are listed in our 24 Hour Library section.

Reviews by teenagers and celebrities. You can add your own reviews and enter competitions.
Has a bookchooser option. You select what you want from a book and it comes up with the top five matches. You can then look up a review of each title.

Homework Help
The online edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica for all ages, providing comprehensive, authoritative information on nearly every subject. If you are a member of Shetland Library, you can access Britannica outwith the library by typing in the number on the back of your library card in the login page.
