This Year's reading challenge is Team Read. Children between the ages of 5 and 12 will be invited to sign up on Monday 7th July and complete a reading record of six books by Friday 15th August. Along the way there will be prizes to collect and competitions to enter, and the medal presentation will take place on Saturday 16th August.

Remember your library card!

Use your Library card to borrow books, CDs, DVDs etc as well as to use the online catalogue to check what you have on loan, renew and reserve items.  To do this, you will need your borrower number and you will also need your PIN number, which you can get from Library staff, or by completing the PIN request form online. (If you use your Young Scot Card, as a library card, your borrower number is the number on the card plus the three digits in the bottom right hand corner of the card.)  Your borrower number can also be used to get access to a range of online books and multimedia, which are listed in our Reference Links section.

Bookstart

Shetland Library, in partnership with NHS Shetland, provides three stages of Bookstart packs for the under fours. Packs one and two are sent out to Health Visitors, to be distributed at the 8 week and 13 month checks. Any parent who doesn't receive either pack one or two can pick one up from the library. Pack 3, the Treasure Chest, is available from the library for every 3 year old.

Monthly Rhyme and Story Sessions are now being held in the Old Museum Gallery. The next session will be held on Friday 20 June 2008 at 10.30 am.

If you are interested in Bookstart or baby book sessions please contact Morag Nicolson, Young People's Services Librarian on 01595 743864.
